Welcome
The Foothills Senior Golf Association is the upstate’s oldest senior golf organization. We have over 150 members and play our tournaments on the second Thursday of each month. We usually have over 100 participants in our tournaments and give out over $700 in prizes (pro shop merchandise certificates). We also have closest to the pin prizes on par three holes and a long drive contest. Our monthly tournaments are stroke play events and are flighted according to handicaps. Points are awarded to the winners in each flight and accumulate throughout the calendar year. We accomodate requests for friends to play in the same group whenever possible.
There is a separate “scratch” flight that low handicap players can choose to play in. This flight plays from a different tee box which makes the course longer. The course for this flight is set up for 6000-6400 yards.
Handicaps
Handicaps are determined by USGA guidelines and are calculated after each tournament. New members must submit proof of their last ten scores from their home club or have a SCGA handicap.
Membership
Yearly dues are $21.00 which includes a $1.00 hole-in-one insurance fee. There is a one-time $10.00 initiation fee for a total of $31.00. You are invited to play as a guest before making a decision to join us.
Annual Prizes
After the December tournament, the membership is divided into three equally numbered groups according to handicaps and the top three point earners in each group are awarded cash prizes. In 2007, members shared over $1200 in end-of-the-year prize money.
Golf Trips
The Tournament Director arranges overnight (some participants choose to travel back and forth or play in only of the tournaments) golf trips every year. This year we have three trips planned. The first is May 27 & 28 at Arrowhead Pointe in Elberton, GA, and at Highland Walk in Royston, GA. In July, we will be traveling to Hickory Knob State Park on July 29 & 30 for two tournament rounds. The final trip of the year will be October 29 & 30. We will play Hammer’s Glenn in Homer, GA, and Eagle Greens in Commerce, GA. Guests and wives are invited to join us (playing or non-playing). All guests are eligible for tournament prizes with a verifiable handicap. Members of the Upstate Seniors, Piedmont Seniors, Foothills II are welcome to join us.
