Foothills Senior Golf Association

The Foothills Senior Golf Association is the umbrella under which four different senior golf associations operate. Each plays on a separate Thursday each month: Upstate, first Thursday; Foothills, second Thursday; Piedmont, third Thursday; F2SGA, fourth Thursday. Upstate, Foothills, and Piedmont tournaments are individual stroke play events, flighted by handicaps, with prizes (vouchers for pro shop merchandise) for low gross and net winners. F2SGA is the alternative senior option playing a variety of formats during the year: two man captain’s choice, modified Stableford scoring, three club, and better ball, for example. Winners receive vouchers for pro shop merchandise. There are also awards for closest to the pin on all par 3’s. A hole-in-one is worth $100. We accommodate requests for friends to play in the same group whenever possible.

Handicaps

Handicaps are determined by USGA guidelines and are calculated after each tournament. Handicaps for new members are established from their SCGA or GHIN handicap where available. That not being available, we establish a target handicap from their recent scores.

Membership

Yearly dues are $25.00 for each group. A 10% discount, $90 is offered for membership in all four groups, with a % reduction for membership in fewer groups. Membership is for the calendar year. You are invited to play as a guest before making a decision to join.

Guests may win the closest-to-the-pin prizes and may pay $3 to be eligible for the merchandise awards. Additionally, only members may collect the hole-in-one bounty and accumulate points toward the golfer of the year.

Annual Prizes

Points are awarded to prizewinners, gross and net and closest to the pin, in each of the individual monthly events. These accumulate during the year toward Golfer of the Year awards in each group.

In the Upstate, Foothills, and Piedmont groups the top ten point winners of the year divide the available purse on a $/point basis. The prize purse to be divided depends on membership and generally exceeds $1,000.

In F2SGA, there is a Golfer of the Year for the first six months and a second competition for the second six months of the year. In each instance, the top eight finishers divide a purse of around $600, again depending on membership

Special events

An additional event open to any senior golfer with a verifiable handicap may be arranged in the months where a fifth Thursday occurs.
